The Dean's Leadership Award (Science)

Background

The Faculty of Science is committed to championing girls and women in science and endeavours to remove barriers for their participation and success at every career stage.  Faculty aspires to be a leader for gender equity within Australia and in 2020 appointed an Associate Dean (Diversity, Inclusion & Women in Science) to drive strategy and actions. The Dean of Science Leadership Award is one of three student awards recognising specific gender equity challenges facing students.

This award aims to reward female students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, who are enrolled in a Masters by coursework program at the University of Melbourne. 

This award is valued at $2500, paid as a lump sum. 

Eligibility

To be considered for this award, students must:

  • be female
  • be enrolled in a Masters by coursework program in the Faculty of Science (either full time or part time)
  • demonstrate leadership skills through activities either at or external to the University of Melbourne

Please note that both domestic and international students are eligible for this award. 

Process

The awarding of the Dean's Leadership Award (Science) is based on demonstrated leadership skills, and reference testimonials. Academic achievement in relevant studies will also be taken into consideration. To apply, eligible students must complete the following steps:

1. Complete and submit the application form by 5:00 pm, Friday 26 March 2021.

AND

2. Submit two references who will attest to the applicant's leadership activities and attributes (via the application form)
