The John Hodgson Scholarship provides research assistance for a PhD student enrolled in the Faculty of Science. Funding will support a research activity that is part of a PhD program but is beyond that normally covered by the student’s supervisor, and for which alternative sources of funding are limited. Research activities may include conference attendance or research fieldwork, for example. Funds must be expended in 2021.
If your research has been impacted by COVID-19, for example fieldwork or collaborative projects with external partners have been delayed or cancelled, applicants may consider seeking funds to alleviate or offset these impacts. This might include the development of projects with external collaborators but without the need to visit in person, or the development of research through digital platforms, for example.
Students must be confirmed in their PhD program. Preference will be given to students in their second year of candidature. Candidates should not have been enrolled in their PhD for more than two years at the closing date of applications.
Selection will be based on the scientific significance of the research, the academic track record of the student, and the potential impact of the award on the student who will benefit most academically and receive the greatest assistance to their research.
The John Hodgson Scholarship was created through bequest from Iona Hodgson in memory of her son John David Hodgson, and is awarded in odd years in the Faculty of Science.
