William Henry Dawson, of Bendigo, bequeathed funds to the University of Melbourne in 1949 for the purpose of providing a bursary in the biological sciences, with preference to be given to children of returned soldiers. Eligible students must be enrolled in a graduate research degree in the biological sciences in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne.
The award may be held for two years depending on progress and continuing eligibility.
Open to students enrolled in a graduate research degree in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne as of 1 January 2021 and who are undertaking research in a school / department in one of the following fields:
Anatomy, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics, Palaeontology, Pathology, Physiology, Zoology
Applicants must have been confirmed at the time applications close.
NB: students undertaking purely clinical research in Medicine are not eligible to apply.
Preference is given (but is not limited) to applicants:
- who have a parent who is a returned soldier (please include documentary evidence);
- whose financial situation,relative to other applicants,would benefit from the award of the bursary
