About the Scholarship

Mary Sloane, late of Windsor, in the State of Victoria, widow, who died on 24 August 1949 (‘donor’), bequeathed her residuary estate to her trustee, the Union‐Fidelity Trustee Company of Australia Limited (‘trustee company’) to pay the income therefrom to her sister Inez Flora McIntyre during her lifetime and after her death, that the same be paid to the University of Melbourne ‘for the purpose of creating a scholarship in Agricultural Science.

The Mary Sloane Travelling Scholarship is offered to students who are enrolled in a graduate research degree in Agriculture, are undertaking travel to visit research institutions, and are experiencing financial need.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be enrolled in a graduate research degree in the Faculty of Science in the field of Agriculture.

Applicants need to submit a Student Financial Assessment (SFA) Form to be considered for this award

Selection Criteria

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on the quality of their application and financial assessment score.  Receipt of other scholarships will be taken into consideration.

Application

Students must submit the University Student Financial Assessment Form and an application and include:

  • Details of research institutions to be visited
  • Personal statement addressing the purpose of and commitment to their field of research
  • Curriculum vitae including leadership experience, publications or presentations related to their field of research
  • Statement of support from their supervisor

Conditions

Students must:

  • Undertake the travel for which the scholarship is awarded
  • Agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation or a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.

Outcome

All scholarship outcomes will be sent via SmartyGrants.
