About the Scholarship

Established by Frances Separovic, the first female professor of chemistry in Victoria (2005), in honour of her parents who emigrated to Australia and did not complete their schooling. Professor Separovic was the first woman to head the School of Chemistry (2010) and the first woman chemist elected to the Australian Academy of Science (2012).

This scholarship is awarded to a Doctor of Philosophy Science student who is undertaking travel as part of their research project. It provides support for national or international travel and research collaboration to include:

  • collecting field data
  • accessing research materials or facilities that are unavailable in Australia
  • working in a laboratory or research institute
  • meeting researchers overseas
  • or presenting a paper or poster at an overseas conference.

Eligible candidates will be ranked based on:

  • Academic Merit,
  • The potential impact of the scholarship on the student’s circumstances and research project interests, as outlined in their application.

The scholarship is awarded at approximately $2,500, although this may vary from year to year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • Be enrolled in a PhD in the Faculty of Science,
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident,
  • Be confirmed
  • Provide evidence of supervisor endorsement,
  • Be undertaking research that requires funding for travel that is part of a PhD program but is beyond that normally covered by the supervisor and for which alternative sources of funding are limited.

Preference may be given to students who are the first in their family to have undertaken an undergraduate degree at a university in Australia.

The successful recipient must provide an annual progress report and be available to meet with the donor for stewardship purposes during their scholarship candidature.

Outcome

All scholarship outcomes will be sent via SmartyGrants.
