About the Award

Dr Sue Newton, BSc (Hons) ANU PhD ANU was a postdoctoral research fellow at Wllcome Biotechnology in the United Kingdom, senior research scientist with Pitman-Moore in Melbourne, senior research fellow at the Centre for Animal Biotechnology at the University of Melbourne and later head of the Molecular Vaccines Department, Victorian Institute of Animal Science. In 2001 Dr Newton was awarded The Agriculture Victoria Executive Award for Leadership.

The Scholarship is to reward scientific achievement by assisting postgraduate students in the faculty of Veterinary Science to travel overseas to present their research at international conferences or to gain experience in research laboratories.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, you need to:

  • be enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the Melbourne Veterinary School
  • provide a description of the purpose to which the scholarship will be applied and the estimated cost

Preference may be given to candidates undertaking research aligned to the fields of parasitology, microchemistry, molecular biology or innovation in science with an emphasis on fundamental science.

Note: Recipients of the scholarship must provide a written report to the committee not later than three months after their return.
