Professor Emeritus Colin Ramm, former dean of the faculty of Science, and his family in 1998 donated to the University the sum of $25,000 to establish the Muriel Ramm Bursary in Science in memory of his late wife.
The bursary is awarded annually to a student entering an Honours course or postgraduate degree in the faculty of Science who is not expected to receive more funds from the University other than an Honours scholarship which covers a fee-based place. The bursary is awarded to the candidate most likely to benefit academically from it. In determining which candidate is most likely to benefit academically from it, the dean may take into account equity criteria such as financial need or hardship arising from being a member of a minority or disadvantaged group.
