John S Turner Postgraduate Scholarship 2025

The University of Melbourne Botany Foundation (established in 1994) supports excellence in education and research in the discipline of botany. The Foundation provides a number of student scholarships, awards and prizes annually to support students and researchers in Botany. Professor Turner was the second Professor of Botany and Plant Physiology, University of Melbourne from 1938 to 1973, and during World War II he was in charge of a team at the University working on tropic‐proofing optical instruments using a fungicide. He was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1956.

​​Students must submit an application and provide details of their research project and a personal statement addressing their reasons for applying for the scholarship and how the funding will benefit their research.​ 

To be considered for this ​scholarship​, students must: 

• Be enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy in the discipline of Botany within the School of BioSciences  
• Undertaking research in the field of plant physiology, plant ecology or conservation plant biology 

All scholarship outcomes will be sent via SmartyGrants.
