Elma Cole Equine Research Scholarship 2025

The Elma Cole Equine Research Scholarship was established with a gift from Elma Stuart Rees Cole and is offered to students who are enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Science, are undertaking research in the field of equine health, and are experiencing financial need. Preference is given to students undertaking research into the treatment of illnesses and injuries from which racehorses and quarter horses are prone to suffer.

To be considered for this scholarship, students must:

• Have applied for and meet the requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Science
• Be undertaking research in the field of equine health

The scholarship is offered to the student(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on the quality of their application and entry score, and their financial need score. Preference will be given to students undertaking research into the treatment of illnesses and injuries from which racehorses and quarter horses are prone to suffer. Other scholarships received by students will be taken into consideration.

Students must submit the University Financial Assessment from and an application, and include:

• Personal statement addressing the purpose of their research and their commitment to equine health
• Curriculum vitae including leadership experience, publications or presentations related to their field of research
• Statement of support from their supervisor

Students must:

• Maintain satisfactory academic progress during their candidature
• Agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation or a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
