About the Scholarship

William Henry Dawson, late of Bendigo, who died on 30 July 1949, bequeathed the balance of his residuary estate to the University for the purpose of providing a bursary in the biological sciences, preference to be given to children of returned soldiers.

The Dawson Bursary will be awarded to a PhD or MPhil student in the Faculty of Science in financial need who is undertaking research in the field of Anatomy, Bacteriology, Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics, Paleontology, Pathology, Physiology or Zoology, with preference given to children of returned soldiers.

The award may be held for two years depending on progress and eligibility period.

Applicants need to submit the Student Financial Assessment Form be considered for this scholarship.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be enrolled in the PhD or MPhil within the Faculty of Science,
  • Be confirmed prior to the closing of this application,
  • Demonstrate Financial Need by completing an online Student Financial Assessment Form 
  • Complete research in any one of the below areas:
    • Anatomy,
    • Bacteriology,
    • Biochemistry,
    • Botany, Genetics,
    • Paleontology,
    • Pathology,
    • Physiology, or
    • Zoology.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Have a parent who is a returned soldier (please include documentary evidence).

Important:

  • Students undertaking purely clinical research in Medicine are not eligible to apply,
  • As part of the application process you must provide a letter of support from your supervisor. This will be considered as part of the committee's assessment.
