P.W. Crohn Scholarship 2025

The P W Crohn Scholarship was established by Mrs Valerie Crohn (MSc 1948-Melb) in memory of her husband Peter Wolfgang Crohn, a graduate of the University of Melbourne who was noted for his research in Antarctic geology and glaciology. He was also a member of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition at Mawson and later Director of Mines of the Northern Territory.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

• be taking subjects in the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
• be in the final year of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, or enrolled in a Master of Science or a postgraduate diploma in Science
• demonstrate Financial Need by completing the online Student Financial Assessment Form

Preference may be given to a student intending to pursue study in the field of Antarctic geology or glaciology or in regional mapping in Australia.

Eligible candidates will be ranked based on:

• Academic merit, judged on the basis of the highest average weighted score in third year level Earth Science studies 
• Studies in Antarctic geology or glaciology, or in regional mapping in Australia

Financial needs of the student may be taken into account at the discretion of the Head, in order to encourage a worthy student.
The award may be shared between more than one student, should it be impossible to distinguish otherwise.
If there are no students studying in the field of Antarctic geology or glaciology, or in regional mapping in Australia, the award will only be given to a student with a minimum score of H1.
